Infrabel selects Dura-Line for its public address system upgrades
Dura-Line supplied an advanced underground access chamber to Infrabel, the government-owned company that builds, owns, maintains, and upgrades Begium’s >8,000 km railway network. The solution was selected to help streamline installations for Infrabel’s latest upgrade project.

CHALLENGE:
Infrabel contracted Eiffage Energie Infra to upgrade public address systems at stations nationwide. At Comblain-la-Tour, a rural station near Liège with limited platform access, chambers were needed at the base of existing speaker poles to facilitate the installation of new power cables through existing ducts. The space constraints made traditional solutions like pre-cast concrete chambers and heavy lifting equipment impossible.
SOLUTION:
Dura-Line, with its distribution partner Wirewave, proposed a 550 x 550 mm modular plastic chamber, easily assembled on site in under 20 minutes or, in this case, supplied preassembled for speed. The chambers are simple to transport and store, with an adjustable metal frame cover for precise levelling – critical for safety on public platforms. Installers integrated chambers into the existing duct network by hand, knocking out the prefabricated entry holes without machinery or drilling.
RESULTS:
Dura-Line’s chambers enabled rapid upgrades with minimal disruption to station operations and rail passengers. Around 150 units were installed on the wider project, with installers able to hand-carry and position the chambers for safe, speedy installs. And because the chambers are rated to D400 against EN-124, they are suitable for a range of applications on the railway and beyond, including grass, pavement, or road deployment in both power and fibre networks.
