Roadside fibre is a game-changer for transportation authorities, road users, and for communities located along roadways. Dura-Line creates the physical pathways that enable safer, more efficient travel across all modes, as well as the middle mile links that extend connectivity to remote and underserved locations.

Urban Roadside Networks

A transport authority in a major Northern European city chose to add a roadside network to their motorway redevelopment project, lowering impact while increasing local connectivity. With the 18/12 mm MicroDuct pathways they installed, the city will now enjoy robust intelligent transportation system capabilities as well as spare duct space for leasing and future upgrades when the time comes.

Coastal Networks

In coastal Northern Europe, a transport authority chose to mole plough and trench 18/14 mm MicroDucts for a roadside network. These MicroDuct pathways will now enable the authority to site data centres farther away from city centres and closer to energy sources, in addition to providing spare capacity for leasing to recoup costs.

Tunnels

Prior to 2018, the city of Uznam (Usedom) Island relied on ferries for connections with Wolin Island and the rest of Poland's mainland road network. Transportation authorities installed MicroDucts LSHF in the Tunel Świnoujście beneath the Świna Strait in northwest Poland, close to the border with Germany, creating a much-needed road link for the island’s residents and additional communications capabilities for authorities.

The two key technical parameters for the communications infrastructure were (1) seamless integration with the OSP network, and (2) halogen-free materials. Dura-Line’s MicroDucts LSHF were spliced to HDPE MicroDucts at either end of the 1.8 km tunnel, enabling seamless jetting, and our best-in-class fire performance met their strict fire safety requirements. They used DuraPack 7-way 12/10 mm along the road, then switched to 7 individual LSHF MicroDucts of the same size, routed through the tunnel on a cable tray.
